Deep tissue massage benefits: when should you choose it?

Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slower movements to focus on deeper muscle layers and specific areas of tension.

Deep tissue massage focused on muscle tension

Unlike a relaxation massage, this technique uses firm pressure and slower movements on specific areas. Intensity should always be adjusted to your comfort and how your body responds.

What can you expect?

A session focused on the areas of tension you discuss with your therapist, with pressure adjusted to your comfort. More pressure does not necessarily mean better results.

Massage may offer short-term relief for some types of neck or shoulder pain, but evidence is limited and does not show that one technique is best for everyone. See the NCCIH information about massage.

Is it for you?

If you often feel stiffness in your neck, back or shoulders, or train frequently, ask whether this technique fits what you are looking for. At Zen, pressure and technique are tailored to your tolerance.
